CEQURUX RELEASES FIREWALL V4

New version of intelligent firewall simplifies installation and support

Cape Town, January 5, 2000 - Internet security company, CEQURUX Technologies, today released the latest version of its firewall product, CEQURUX Firewall V4.0. Version 4.0 boasts new features that simplify the installation process, facilitate better management control of Internet usage, boost web performance through enhanced web proxying, and improve service capabilities with a direct cost saving for support.

CEQURUX Firewall V4.0 includes bootable installation CD, auto-registration, support for chained web caches, seamless domain name server (DNS) and mail support, automatic CEQURUX secure shell (ssh) configuration, Webtrend compatible logging, and support for sync cards.

"We believe our auto-registration process to be the most advanced automatic software registration system in the world. Together with the seamless DNS and mail feature, which allows mail and DNS services to work without re-configuration, installation time and complexity is dramatically reduced," says Dr Graham Wheeler, vice president of engineering at CEQURUX.

"The previous version required an activation key obtained by telephone, email or fax from CEQURUX but this new feature allows auto-registration across the Internet. Even if an order has not gone through, clients are still given instant access to the Firewall with a 60-day demonstration key obtained via the Internet," Wheeler continues.

Good news for the Channel

According to Wheeler this effectively licenses the channel to perform demonstrations of the product. CEQURUX V4.0 can also be configured before the key is obtained, again simplifying the installation process. The drain on financial and human resources is minimised by the combination of auto-registration and bootable installation CD.

Support for sync cards is particularly beneficial to smaller sites, especially at the lower end of the SME market, as it eliminates the need (and cost) for a separate access router. CEQURUX V4.0 plugs directly into the PTT line which from the viewpoint of support, means there is one less box to worry about.

Wheeler adds that web performance is enhanced by a module that has been designed purely for proxying, permitting chaining to multiple external web caches, thereby reducing the time spent waiting for web pages to download.

Automatic CEQURUX ssh configuration - pre-loaded public crypto keys on the Firewall - ensures a secure method of allowing CEQURUX support team members to remotely logon to a client network to diagnose problems. Access is controlled by the end-user/network administrator and is enabled/disabled by way of one mouse click on a simple checkbox. This feature facilitates rapid and secure resolution without compromising the client network.

The CEQURUX Firewall V4.0 has an intelligent intrusion detection capability enabled by the use of next generation architecture. Once the firewall detects a stealth attack, the sophisticated code will attempt to determine the type of attack and the necessary action. Action steps, set during configuration, can vary from notifying the network administrator of the attack via SMS to his/her cellphone or even shutting down the firewall.

Wheeler concludes, "As part of CEQURUX’s buyout of Citadel, we are re-engineering the firewall product and aiming at a higher performance market whilst ensuring that everything is standards-based by using state-of-the-art technology."
