Adding Browsable RFCs to the Firewall

There are hypertext-linked versions of the RFCs already available on the web. If you want to keep local copies to save time when you access them, rather than accessing them on some remote server, you can do this using the webadmin service. To do this, you need to do the following:

1.
Create a directory /usr/local/proxy/rfc.
2.
Create subdirectories for the RFCs. Each subdirectory should be used for a group of 100 RFCs, and be named `rfc00xx', `rfc01xx', and so on.
3.
Download RFCs from the net and place them in the appropriate subdirectories.
4.
Download the file `rfc-index.txt', and place it in the /usr/local/proxy/rfc directory.
5.
From that directory, run the command `idx2html rfc-index.txt' to generate suitable HTML index files.

When you access the webadmin service, if the index.html file exists, then an additional option, `Browse the RFCs', will appear on the menu. Clicking on that will bring up the index.html file. You can put many other files in the directory and have links to them from the index.html file. Furthermore, these needn't be RFCs but can be arbitrary files, but this will then require that you maintain the index files by hand, rather than using the `idx2html' program.

You can add RFCs as you need them, and just rerun the `idx2html' program on the updated rfc-index.txt file to regenerate the indices.
