First-Time Setup

The first thing that needs to be set up on your firewall is your hardware configuration. In some cases you may have all your hardware correctly detected upon booting, although this will only happen if you have Plug and Play PCI Ethernet NICs. In other cases you will need to specify what Ethernet NICs you have, and what their hardware settings are. In either case, it is good to go through the hardware configuration steps, as unused device drivers will get disabled as a result, which will translate into faster boot times as less device probes will be needed.

Log in as admin and choose `Other Keys' and then `Setup' from the Main Screen to get to the Main Setup Screen (Figure 4.2).

This screen is just used as a top-level screen from which the other setup screens can be accessed.

The following primary functions are available:

Toggle between primary and secondary functions

View or edit the list of local networks
F3
View or edit the name service configuration
F4
View or edit the mail configuration
F5
View or edit the service access control setup
F6
View or edit the publicly accessible service setup
F7
View help
F8
Return to the Main screen

The following secondary functions are available:

Toggle between primary and secondary functions
F2
Set up basic system configuration
F3
View or edit the system logging configuration
F4
View or edit the idle timeout settings
F5
View or edit the VPN configuration
F6
View or edit the remote administration setup
F7
View help
F8
Return to the Main screen
